What type of Yoga do we practice in our yoga workshops?

We practice Jaya Yoga, which is distinct from regular hatha yoga in that it is also a yogic lifestyle practice rather than just an exercise regimen. Our comprehensive and variety packed retreats will endeavor to provide you with the many different aspects of health enhancement from the yogic tradition including: hatha yoga asanas, ayurveda, diet, massage, meditation: Japa yoga, kiritan, aromatherapy and more. We respect your choice to add which ever elements of this total health package you desire to your daily life. Jaya Yoga is a powerful and effective practice designed to keep your body and mind stress free and hence minimize illnesses and disease so you can be healthy and well to make the most of this life. As such Jaya Yoga is the perfect answer to lasting health, happiness and wellbeing and is guaranteed to have something of value for everybody.

What is a typical Day like?

  • 6:00am -6:30am rise and take a shower
  • 6:30am – 7:00am morning meditation
  • 7:00am – 8:30am Hatha Yoga: power
  • 8:30am – 9:00am Breakfast
  • 9:00am- 11:30am Group Activity
  • 11:30am – 12:00 noon lunch
  • 12:00 noon – 2:00pm free time
  • 2:00pm – 3: 30pm Yoga Flow: dance
  • 4:00pm – 6:00pm Group Activity 2
  • 6:30pm – 7:30pm Hatha Yoga
  • 7:30pm – 8:00pm Dinner
  • 8:00pm – 10:30pm free time

Is Jaya Yoga suitable for those with Yoga experience, what about intermediates and beyond?

Yes. Jaya Yoga asanas are not set routines, (although our flowing dance follows a format that has different options for various levels), and offer yoga workshops that are guaranteed to offer those with yoga experience an enjoyable yet challenging practice that leaves each individual feeling rejuvenated and peaceful.

What is the price of a Jaya Yoga Retreat and what is included?

We offer a few pricing options depending on whether you choose to share a room with another person, and whether you choose to purchase your own airfare or want the airfare included in the package.

The price for a 5 day Jaya Yoga Retreat, including full accomodation, three meals each day, all activities and classes, and return airfare from most major cities world wide is: US$2595 per person or else: US$2395 per person, if you choose to share a room with a partner.

What kind of food do you serve? Can you accommodate special diets?

A delicious and health packed breakfast, lunch and dinner is served as part of your all inclusive package at Jaya Yoga retreats. All meals are whole food vegetarian international cuisine prepared with love by our in-house chef, Natascha. Each of the guest rooms come equipped with a bar fridge that you can use to store any other food or drinks, to meet your individual diets.

What kind of clothes should I bring?

The atmosphere at Jaya yoga is casual and fun. So bring along light and comfortable clothes, to practice yoga and massage in. Swimming costumes, sunscreen and a hat are bare essentials on this sun drenched sunset strip of West Oahu. We also highly recommend walking shoes for our hike. Yoga mats, blocks and belts are all provided by us, as with snorkels and masks for snorkeling, but you are most welcome to bring your own for hygiene if you prefer. Feel free to use the weather report on our home page to keep informed of the up-to-date weather here in Makaha, although it never rarely drops below 20 degrees Celsius, or goes above 30 degrees Celsius in March and we are blessed with sunshine and good weather typically all year around.

How many people are in a program?

We prefer to keep the groups small to medium size, and numbers will vary from 5 to 25 depending on the retreat. We recruit more teachers to assist with larger groups, so everyone is has the utmost opportunity for instruction, advice and help when needed.

What is the accommodation like at the Makaha International Resort?

All standard rooms offer air conditioning, cable TV, king size bed, fridge, private lanai, coffee maker and a private bathroom with a bath tub, shower, full bath amenities and hairdryer. Room service and daily maid servicing are also included. Adjoining rooms are available on request. These lovely rooms offer beautiful garden and mountain views and is all inclusive in your one time course fee.

Do you have internet access for guests?

Yes. The Makaha Resort has free wireless internet access in the main foyer available free of charge 24/7 for all guests.

What if I’m an absolute beginner, do I need prior experience in yoga?

Prior experience isn‘t necessary for Jaya yoga retreats and workshops. Our professional instructors are expert at adapting the poses for your body’s ability. If you have serious physical limitations (heart disease, history of stroke, even very high blood pressure), please advise us upon arrival, so we can adapt the asanas to meet your individual needs.
