The answer to these and many other health problems can be found in the thousands -of -year old, time tested system of ayurvedic medicine from India, meaning the “Science of Life”.
Ayurvedic medicine is different to perhaps all other forms of medicine because the diagnosis and treatment are based on, and tailored to your individual ayurvedic constitution or body type, also known as your dosha. Your body is made up of a combination of the various elements of fire, water, earth and air, these elements are in different degrees in each person and consequently greatly affect our mental and physical composition. From our moods and emotional tendencies, to body shape, hair and skin color, complexion, bone structure, weight etc, it is all governed to a large extent by these forces within our bodies. Unfortunately in the west today, because we have little or no knowledge of our constitution—regardless of our efforts to maintain a healthy balance we often put these forces out of balance, which results in an increased spiral of frustration and at worst even hopelessness. By adopting an ayurvedic lifestyle suited to your dosha, you can achieve your optimal heath and full potential.
According to Ayurvedic medicine, there are 3 primary life forces in the body or doshas : ayurvedic Pitta, ayurvedic Vata and ayurvedic Kapha. Each individual is made up of these three doshas to varying degrees, with the dominating one being the individuals’ primary dosha. When the dohas’ are out of balance then disease is the resultant affect. The Pitta dosha represents fire and its quality is hot, oily, sharp, light, unpleasant in odor, mobile and liquid. The Vata dosha represents air and is primarily dry, cold, light, quick, subtle and agitated. Kapha, representing water, is cold, moist, heavy, wet, dull, sticky, soft and firm.
